Waterman Mysterious Blue Ink Review

I’ve been working on reviewing the October 2015 Ink Drop and I will have the rest of my reviews up this week for that! I have been trying out a different review format, and I really like how I am doing it. If you have any thoughts on what could be changed or what I could do better, just comment! I appreciate all of the feedback from my readers.

National Novel Writing Month is coming up, and I think I want to participate! Over the next week or so I’ll be planning that out and getting an outline started. I’ll be doing all 50,000 words by hand with my trusty fountain pens!

I have also updated the Pen People page with more blogs and more retailers you can check out.

If you have any requests for a pen or an ink review, just comment or email me at and I will do my best to get it up on The Southpaw Pen!

Thanks for reading everyone!

Updates and New Things to The Southpaw Pen!

Hey everyone! I know it has been a while, but I have a couple updates and whatnot to bring to you! It has been a busy couple of weeks because of school. I have 3 exams next week and I just wanted to take a break from that by kind of giving a preview of things to come to The Southpaw Pen!

So, without further adieu… UPDATES!

New Things I Purchased!

So, I have had a couple of purchases from Goulet Pens and Anderson Pens in the past couple of weeks. Yes, I know I’m addicted. I purchased a couple of maintenance items from Goulet (sample holder, bulb for cleaning pen, blunt syringe), a 1.1mm Goulet stub nib, and a few new samples which included Diamine Majestic Blue, J. Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey, and Diamine Eau de Nil as my Surprise Me! sample.

After I received these, I immediately put the Stormy Grey into my Jinhao x450 with the 101mm Goulet stub nib on it and I fell in love. I also tested my Diamine Eau de Nil in my Jinhao x750 and was amazed at how beatiful the color was.

Hopefully after this week, I will be posting more ink reviews on the Stormy Grey and the Diamine Eau de Nil. All I know is that the Diamine Eau de Nil is my new favorite ink, and I’ve been using it for just about everything! I bought the bottle of Diamine Eau de Nil from Anderson Pens and from Goulet Pens, the J. Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey, a nice Goulet fine nib for my Jinhao x750, and my first Rhodia dotpad! I can see why that paper lives up to the hype. The shading I’ve had out of my Diamine Autumn Oak is AMAZING.

So, I decided to write a little lineup showing all of my currently inked pens:

Current pen lineup in my 7Felicity travelers notebook.

I personally love the colors that are in my current pens. I can’t wait to see next month’s ink drop so I can try out some new inks!

Upcoming News to The Southpaw Pen!

So, here soon I will be working on some ink reviews. I purchased a couple of new bottles and have some more ink samples so I am excited to start working on those. I should also be doing a couple of pen reviews for some of the more beginning pens I have including: Jinhaos, the Pilot Metropolitan, TWSBI Eco, and the Noodler’s Ahab.

What is in the Mail?

So, I made my last purchases of the year for pens yesterday. One thing I got was the Edison Premiere
Limited Edition Fall 2015 Midnight Thunder pen from Goulet Pens and I am so excited to try it and test it for my self. I’ll be my first Edison pen and I am looking forward to owning a pen from a company in my home-state, Ohio.

The one last thing I got… will be a surprise to my readers next week! I’m so excited for this secret pen I purchased, and I can’t wait to show everyone!

That’s it from me – for now. I have three exams this week so I better get to studying!

Upcoming Reviews and Other Things

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I’m going to have new ink reviews coming out tomorrow! I will be finishing out the bottles I have, and I will be starting on some of my samples. I will be using a Jinhao x450 with a medium nib for most of these. I’m using it as my dip pen/ink sampling pen and it’s been holding up quite well. I think the Jinhao is a good pen to do some of these ink reviews with because it is a pen that most everyone will have because its ‘economical’ pricing.

On top of that, it’s my 21st birthday today! I know that isn’t too exciting for most people (including me), but I’m glad it gave me the excuse to pick up some more pen related things. I think on my next order from Goulet Pens I will be picking a few maintenance things up for my pens. Definitely excited. I think on my list is the sample vial holder (finally!), bulb syringe, 5mL ink syringes, and a #6 fine nib for my other Jinhao pen I have.

Also, I think I’ll be coming out with some pen reviews soon! I want to review my TWSBI Eco, Pilot Metropolitan, and Noodler’s Ahab. I know all of these pens have been reviewed before, but I would like to get my opinion on these pens out there to everyone to help decide if a certain pen is for you.

Upcoming Releases and Things to Check Out

Over the past 2 weeks or so, we have seen some very exciting news and releases in the world of fountain pens and inks. I just wanted to take a minute to highlight some of the things that I am very excited about!

Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop

I am very excited about these pens! They will be release in November 2015 at the same price as the other Pilot Metropolitans that are currently available (around $15). I love how these pens have a classy look, but then also have a “pop” of retro, color, and fun. I will definitely be picking up at least one of these when they go on sale. The Metropolitan is a great, affordable pen that everyone needs in their collection. I will probably be picking up the green one and hopefully a nice ink to match. If you have any suggestions for a green ink to match the green Metropolitan, mention it in the comments!

Diamine Shimmering Ink Collection

After all of the excitement over the J. Herbin 1670 inks, Diamine decided to give us their own collection of shimmertastic inks. The line of sheening inks will be available in 50mL bottles in October 2015. I haven’t seen any news on how much they will be going for, so let’s hope they won’t be too expensive!

One thing I really like about Diamine’s line of inks is that it features inks with both gold AND silver flecks in them which I think is awesome. There are quite a few of these I have listed on my wish list and I am excited to pick up a couple samples (or bottles…) when they come out in October!

If you would like to see any of the current ink reviews out there for these inks, you can find them on the forums at or

TWSBI 580AL Blue

A recent announcement from TWSBI stated that the 580AL Purple will be discontinued, so if you are interested in that now is the time to pick one up. That being said, with the announcement of the purple being discontinued we also got a preview of the next 580AL coming out: Blue.

All of these colors are beautiful, but I am especially excited for this blue one to come out soon! There hasn’t been a release date for this pen yet, but whenever I see it I’ll make sure to post it up here on the blog.

Alright! That’s all I have for upcoming releases and things to check out. I will be having a couple of reviews here soon (hopefully) so keep an eye out for those!

Monday Blurb: Recent Purchases, Updates, and More!

Guys, I caved. I couldn’t stop myself – I have been thinking about this pen for the past few weeks and it won’t get off my mind. I’ve been watching videos, reading reviews, staring at the pen in the cart… I even have had multiple dreams of this pen.

I couldn’t resist, so I bought it.

Pilot Vanishing Point, Fine Nib

The pen is so gorgeous – I mean, look at the retractable black-plated, 18k gold nib! I just can’t stop staring at pictures of this pen right now.

Right now it’s on its way from Anderson Pens along with some other goodies that include: a bottle of Diamine Autumn Oak, a Noodler’s Ahab, and a Tashikawa G Dip Nib to play with and see if I can get it on one of my Jinhaos to see if I can convert it to a dip pen so I can start doing ink reviews more often and consistently.

Other News….

I officially subscribed to Goulet Pens‘s Ink Drop program. For $10 a month, you get the 5 ink samples they selected for the month. I am very excited about this, mostly because August’s ink drop looks amazing.

I am so excited to try out the Noodler’s Apache Sunset in my Noodler’s Ahab I am getting soon. The Diamine Burnt Sienna and Fiber-Castell Moss Green look amazing too!

Anyway – I will try to have a few more reviews and other posts here soon. School has started and engineering is hard, so that’ll be taking up a lot of my time. A lot of my paper, ink, and pen reviews will probably include some of the notes I’ve been taking just because that is how I’ve been testing my inks…
